WHY CARIBBEANFAMILY? The idea evolved out of a need to create a place where Caribbean people, regardless of their location, can  visit and feel connected or reconnected to their Caribbean heritage. A place where they can find all their much needed information about the Caribbean, from NEWS to MUSIC to SPORTS to INFORMATION ON TRAVEL. Caribbeanfamily is as its name suggest, a site that is family oriented. It's a site where Caribbean people are allowed to voice their concerns, share their opinions and generally maintain unity within the Caribbean community.

If that is not reason enough to create this site, another reason would be because I love the Caribbean, I love my Caribbean culture. Being a true Guyanese makes it even more important for me to love and cherish my Caribbean roots.

Having said that, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Ronald Jones, I have been living and working in the Washington DC area  for the pass 20 years. Before that I was living in Newark, New Jersey which you may or may not know has a very large Caribbean population.

As young man in Newark one of the things that I wanted to do was hide my Caribbean roots. I remember the kids called me 'Guyana man', a name I hated and I did everything to try and hide my roots, even to the extent of losing  my accent in an effort to fit into the new culture and change the focus from me being different, but, no matter what I did I could not change the fact that my family and I were Guyanese.

As a man, I have realized that the one thing I was running away from, was the very thing that has molded  me into the man that I am today and the man I will be for the rest of my life. It has greatly influenced the way I am bringing up my children, imparting in them the need to embrace their culture, regardless of what it is.
